Exploring Acrylic Painting:
Beginning Acrylic Workshop Series

Acrylic Workshops can be booked individually or as a four-session series.

Session 1: Foundations of Acrylic Painting

  • Introduction to Materials: Overview of acrylic paints, brushes, mediums, and surfaces.

  • Techniques: Basic strokes, blending, and layering.

  • Practice: How to control paint thickness and opacity using water and mediums.

  • Complete a mini project

Session 2: Color Mixing and Composition

  • Understanding Color Theory: Mixing colors, creating tints, tones, and shades, and understanding warm vs. cool tones.

  • Composition Basics: Rule of thirds, focal points, and balance.

  • Complete a mini project:

Session 3: Techniques for Depth and Texture

  • Creating Depth: Layering, glazing, and using perspective.

  • Exploring Texture: Palette knives, sponges, and mediums (gel, modeling paste, etc.).

  • Complete a mini project

Session 4: Final Project and Finishing Touches

*Extended session - 3 hours

  • Individual Project: Participants work on a chosen subject, applying learned techniques.

  • Troubleshooting and Feedback: Guidance on improving composition, color, and technique.

  • Final Touches: Varnishing, framing, or presenting the finished work.

Session 2: Mastering Color: Unlock the secrets of color theory and discover how to mix and blend pigments to achieve your desired hues. Through fun exercises, you'll develop confidence in your ability to create captivating color schemes.

Session 3: Adding Depth and Texture: Elevate your paintings by learning how to add depth and texture using innovative techniques. From creating mesmerizing textures with salt and plastic wrap to mastering the art of masking fluid, you'll expand your artistic repertoire.

Session 4: Crafting Composition: Explore the principles of composition and learn how to design captivating artworks. Experiment with different painting techniques, such as glazing and dry brush, as you bring your compositions to life.

Intermediate Watercolor Workshop Series

Watercolor Workshops can be booked individually or as a four-session series.

Session 1: Understanding Shadows & Light

  • Introduction to light sources and how they affect shadows

  • Types of shadows: cast shadows vs. form shadows

  • Warm vs. cool shadows and how to mix them

  • Practice: Painting basic geometric shapes with realistic shadows

  • Small project: Create a monochromatic still life focusing on light direction

Session 2: Composition & Balance

  • Principles of composition: Rule of thirds, focal points, and leading lines

  • How to arrange elements to create depth and movement

  • Layering techniques to add atmospheric perspective

  • Practice: Thumbnails and sketches for balanced compositions

  • Small project: Paint a simple landscape using composition techniques

​Session 3: Using Complementary Colors for Depth

  • Understanding the color wheel: Complementary color pairs

  • How to mix complementary colors for natural shadows

  • Neutralizing colors and avoiding muddy tones

  • Practice: Layering complementary colors to create dimension

  • Small project: Painting a still life using complementary color shadows

Session 4: Final Project & Refinement

*Extended session - 3 hours

  • Combining all techniques learned

  • Guided final painting: Students choose their subject (still life, landscape, or figure)

  • Adding finishing touches: Enhancing shadows, refining composition, and final details

  • Group critique and feedback session
